Setting up an account on Trenitalia
 

I have found train tickets at the super saver rate that I want to purchase on Trenitalia (Verona to Florence). I tried to sign up for an account, but since I don't have an address in Italy, it isn't letting me. Can someone help me navigate their site? I read that Italiarail had the same prices with a $5 fee added, but when I went to their site, I found the tickets that would be 26 euros were $81.

This is my first trip to Europe for my husband and me. I am trying to find the tricks to having a great trip without breaking the bank. I so appreciate any help you can give me!

You don't need to register on the Trentitalia site, just bought tickets for June last week and it went easy-peasy. The credit card registered just fine, no problems and I received my email confirmation almost immediately. However, suggest you take a screen shot of the final page or take a printout as some people have reported not receiving the confirmation, this will help retrieve your reservation. Do a practice run just up to payment, it really isn't hard at all. Check out the link below, tells you how to go about it step-by-step.

You do not need to register to buy tickets; and since you do not have an Italian address, the site won't let you register. I had the same experience last week, so just bought the tickets with a cc, no problem. Printed the confirmation, and did get an e-mail confirmation as well. Ignore the registration part and you will be fine.

You don't have to register, but you can't access to reprint of change things. While Ron in Rome has some good info about trains, much of it is dated and the registration screen/process is no longer like that.

Try registering on Trenitalia by filling out the first section (your personal data). Under country of birth select Stati Uniti d'America.

Fill out the second section (your account).

Fill out the fourth section (for contacting). I don't think you have to select a phone if you don't want even though it has an asterisk.

Click agree or disagree boxes at the bottom and the read terms box. See if that works.

I tend to use a gmail address for things in Italy as it seems other e-mails, registrations or return e-mails never reach me.

You can book without registering. - select 'non soon registrato'

This option may not appear if part of the journey is on a regional train, if so split the booking and book only the train you need to reserve seats on, buying the regional train at the station.

Or use italiarail.com which links to the same system so should have identical prices plus €3.50 fee which will be refunded if you email them quoting tripadvisor.

Make sure you print out your confirmation! Last summer we were taking a train in Milan and couldn't print out the tickets from the machine (couldn't get e-tickets). The info man tried to get the tickets from the machine, no avail. Seconds before our train was to leave he wrote a note on my printed out confirmation, stamped the paper and signed it. The conductor on the train inspected it, made a funny face, shrugged his shoulders and moved on. Phew! I was super glad to have an actual printout!
