Settimana delle Beni Culturali

Does anyone know the dates for the 2014 culture week in Italy?

kybourbon Mar 22nd, 2014 04:24 PM

I don't see it on the usual sites and a couple of years ago they didn't do it because of the economy.

Thanks, kybourbon, for your efforts. March 24-30 seems to be "Museum Week" on twitter. I've searched all the sites I know but haven't been able to find Settimana delle Beni Culturali 2014. Perhaps, again, they are not having it. We will be in Venice April 4-19, and I am certain we will find plenty to do whether or not there is a special Settimana then!

First of all it is dei Beni and not delle Beni

What I believe you are looking for is the Settimana della Cultura which actually runs for 10 days from April 16 to April 25 when all museums, monuments, libraries, archives etc are freely accessible.

Note that these dates cover Easter and the April 25th holiday so expect crowds.

I agree, but it also varied by country/city. There is no info about it for this year. I found one hostel website that says it's probably canceled and another on the Torino tourism webste. I know the first link says 2012, but when you click it, they are discussing 2014.

Usually it's listed on this website:

And also on the Rome Tourism website.

It was announced here -

nochblad, I saw that announcement, but it refers to April 16 - 25 2010.

kybourbon Mar 23rd, 2014 04:58 PM

Exactly. Nochblad's link has the number right next to it - XII Settimana della Cultura.

The hostel link I gave explains they waited until the last minute to decide whether to have it or not. I think the Torino link may have been an earlier year.

I guess keep checking the websites.

It looks as if this initiative has been cancelled. See -

nochblad - Once again, your link is talking about last year which they said they were cancelling. From my hostel link:

***Every year the city of Rome organizes the so-called “Culture Week” or Settimana della Cultura, which this year, 2014, ought to have been held for the 14th time.

That’s right, OUGHT TO!! Last year, because of the economic crisis, there was not going to be a Culture Week. About this year there is no news yet. Rome had a new mayor, though, and hopefully he will reinstate this excellent and much-loved initiative***

They still did the Heritage weekend in Sept.(usually the last weekend I think).

nochblad Mar 24th, 2014 06:51 AM

kybourbon - exactly. If they cancelled it last year for financial reasons it is even less likely this year!

The Culture Week is determined at a national rather than regional or local level.

Rome is essentially bust with massive debts. A Culture Week to benefit tourists - who come anyway - is not at the height of their priorities.
