Seriously- what's the deal with the Glacier Express? I can't figure out the reservation thing
LOL, how's that for a headline? I've been trying to make an online reservation for the Glacier Express from St Moritz to Brig and I can't find any links to do so. Do I have to wait till I get to Switzerland and make them through the train station? It's for June 17, what if it's too late? What about making reservations for dining? It looks like that's a separate contact. I want to do that, but not if I can't get on the train at that time!

Oh, BTW, we only need a reservation, we have 15 day Swiss passes

Hi LLindaC,
You can make reservations while you're in St Moritz; a day or two early should be plenty. Here's a link to the website's booking page: http://www.glacierexpress.ch/pages_e...z-zermatt.html Here's an excerpt: "Seats only can be booked at any station in Switzerland or at any international station all over the world."[b] I would think that means, in the US, through Raileurope. I would e-mail them using the address on the page to be sure. Note that you'll have to pay a surcharge for this train, even with a pass. Here's a link to that information: http://www.glacierexpress.ch/pages_e...arges2006.html Have fun! s |
Thank you- we won't actually be in St Moritz, but are hopping on in Filisur. I think we'll make that reservation when we arrive in Zurich, though. Can you make dining reservations at that time?

Hi again,
Yes, I would think so. One of those links I gave you showed the surcharge with or without lunch, so I would guess it's a standard package purchase. I also played around at Raileurope, and they sell seats on GE if you're within 30 days of travel. On the links I followed, you were allowed to check a box, "I have a railpass," so this may make things easier for you. Have fun! s |
