'Serious delays' to UK flights after air traffic glitch

Another FYI. I called Virgin Atlantic and it doesn't look like this will affect my flight for tomorrow:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...299075,00.html

Thanks for this update. Hopefully Virgin Atlantic is correct when they say it won't affect your flight. Bon Voyage!

Vita,
Fingers crossed but don't be too sure. According to the 10 pm BBC 1 news program tonight, the larger the airport, the more likely flights will continue to be delayed. Delays of two to three hours are likely to last through the week-end. All passengers flying to/from UK this week-end are advised to call the airline before heading to the airport to find out about flight status.

Anyone know how long these delays will last? I'm flying into London from San Fransisco, and then taking a flight from London-Paris... I'll be flying in on next week thursday.

Anna, I don't get the impression that the delays will last until Thursday. Not sure who you're flying with but I just called Virgin Atlantic again. They said that none of their flights were affected yesterday and they don't anticipate any delays today. I would give things a day to settle and give your airline a call on Monday to check the status.

Here's a little blurb from today's London Times:

Thousands of air passengers face continued delays after an air traffic computer problem triggered mass flight delays and cancellations. More than 80 flights were cancelled and hold-ups of up to six hours were reported after a mystery computer software glitch forced air traffic controllers to halve the number of aircraft normally in the skies. The system was returned to full capacity after five hours, but officials warned the backlog of delayed flights might stretch into today.
