September touring southern Germany Austria northern Italy and France

We are 4 adults Driving from Amsterdam on the 13th of September , hoping to see the black forest / Romantic road ( we have an apartment in in the village below Neuschwanstein Castle from the 16th to the 21st )and will do day trips from there , Then head out through Austria to Northern Italy where we hope to cover the Cinque Terra and a few other sites before going to Nice then up to the Loire valley Posibly staying in Tours or Blois while seeing The Chateaux then to Mont St Michael Caen And normandy landing beaches and also aday or so in Belgium before reaching Paris on the 4th of October where we will spend 5 days in an apartment.
My question is any suggestions for the driving between amsterdam and Paris and places to see , also I have heard there are a lot of toll roads what is the best way to handle that.

That is a massive trip gappelhof! AMS-Germany-Austria-N Italy-S France and back up to Normandy? That is like driving across the USA, almost. So you are looking for places between AMS and Paris at the end of your trip?

What is your time limit? That will have an effect on how much you can cover.

At any rate, from Amsterdam you'll want to drop down to Belgium before going to Germany, maybe via Aachen. And from the Mont St. Michel go back to Paris.

Toll roads are not a must. I generally avoid them because toll roads tend to flatten out the countryside.

If you rent a car, you should be aware that there is a steep cross-border drop-off fee. On the other hand, we know of four adults who rented a car in one country and dropped it off in another, feeling that the fee split in four was not excessive.

Hi g,

In Austria you will need an International Driver's Permit and a road tax sticker (vignette).

You can purchase a vignette at any gas station within a few miles of the border.

Enjoy your expedition.
