September or October???

A friend and I are planning our first trip to Italy. We will be staying in Gaeta with friends, but will venture off on our own for a few days to Rome. We will also be planning to see Naples Pompeii, Sorrento and the Almalfi Coast. We are debating on going in September (about the 13th) or November (about the 1st). I know November is the off season and the flight is about $200 cheaper. Since we will be staying most of the time with friends, we won't have to worry about hotel charges. Which would be a better time to go, especially in terms of weather? Thanks!

September will be warmer but comfortable and not so rainy. By the time November comes, the weather and the rain are a bit unpredictable. Good luck.

I agree with Wayne. The other advantage of September is more daylight. There is a European bank holiday on 9 September so people might be traveling to Italy for a long weekend.

Definitely September IMO; not as hot then and probably fewer visitors; better weather, overall than in November.

Iro, we were in Italy last September for two weeks and the weather was glorious--warm but not hot, and only one day of rain. We couldn't have done better.

I know of someone who visited Rome, taking advantage of those really cheap fares about a month or so ago, and the weather was rainy and cold. She had a miserable time. Sure, she paid a lot less than we did in airfare, but the old adage "You get what you pay for" comes to mind...
