September - October Weather

Is there a desirable Europe destination with predictably good weather in Sept/October?
Other than major cities to consider, areas such as Provence, Lake Como, Ireland etc. in autumn may be poor choices, so I've read and better visited in other seasons. Any inisghts and suggestions?

You have a good chance of good weather in both Provence and Paris in those months, but no one can guarantee what it's going to be like in any given time period. I like autumn for traveling to Europe--generally decent weather and w/o the crowds of July. Unless you are looking for beach weather and/or like to sightsee when it's hot, I can't see how you would be disappointed. Naturally, Oct. gets cooler, and the days are shorter. It really depends upon what you are looking for in a vacation.

Someone else can better advise you about Lake Como and Ireland.

I can't think of anywhere in Europe that wouldn't have "predictably good" weather in September, but October is pushing it for the most northern parts of the continent.

We've had good-to-great weather in late October over many years to many places, but maybe we were just lucky.

Some towns in places like Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast are definitely summer resorts, and many hotels and restaurants are closed over the winter months. But Italians also live in these places year round, so we're not talking ghost towns.

We have been to Ireland 4 times during the first two weeks of September and the weather was great 3 times. The other time it was quite cool, windy and rainy. We have been in Paris in September several times and always had decent weather -- neither too hot or too cool -- with little-to-no rain.

We had very good weather on two trips to Italy during September/October, including two stays at Lake Como.

These two months are our favorite travel-to-Europe time due to generally good weather and much smaller crowds. While there are never any guarantees as to weather, our experiences have been good.

Last fall - September and October - we were in Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Italy. The weather was fantastic.

To add to my other reply - we were in Scandanavia in September and then went to Paris for 5 days. Scandanavia was warm and beautiful - Paris was so cold we wore stocking caps and gloves.

4 years ago in the early days of September we were driving through snow in Bavaria and there was snow at the castles. It was the earliest snowfall in 25 years.

So you never know - take gloves and a warm hat and it can't get too cold to enjoy it.
