If you are going in September, you should have already picked a place to stay. It's possible to go blind into Venice in September and get a hotel somewhere, but searching isn't the best way to spend your time there. You need to hop on the hotel issue right away. <BR><BR>You haven't said anything about what level or type of hotel you prefer (the range of costs is from under $100 to over $1000). You haven't said what kind of tastes you have in travel, so we don't know what to recommend for you to eat. You haven't said what kind of things you enjoy doing, so we can't accurately recommend some things to do or see. Come back with a new post and give us some data so we can help. You don't have a heck of a lot of time. You might start by looking up "Venice hotels" on this forum to get some idea.

There so many ideas on places to stay, that you may need to do two things. First search this site for Venice, you will not believe how many posts you will find. Second define what you are looking for in a hotel are you looking for canal view for under 200 €

In an ideal world, this forum would provide some kind of advanced technology that greets every newcomer, has a short chat to assess what is the information need, and then spits out a great customized answer.<BR><BR>I love this forum, and sometimes I think I would agree to work "shifts" as the greeter, doing just that. And sometimes I do compose customized essay answers to questions like this one.<BR><BR>Nopt having the time right now, I will simply point out a few resources.<BR><BR>1. You have already gotten good and sound advice that it is VERY URGENT that you try to spend as much time as possible, learn about the (few?) hotels with September availability that match your criteria - - and get booked as soon as you can. Preferably today. The best bargains (and good "value" occurs at almost every price level) are very likely to be all booked up by now.<BR><BR>2. Go immediately to www.venere.com to see what they have for availability at your price range.<BR><BR>3. Beware that there is a definite trade-off to stay on Lido, which will seem to offer you more availability at MUCH lower price. But I think you miss one of the key bits of magic of Venice to stay there - - the two best hours of the day, IN Venice - - the last hour before you go to bed, and the first hour as soon as you wake up. You miss both of those IN Venice, if you are staying ON Lido.<BR><BR>4. The search engine is working uncommonly well (right now). Search "venice hotels" - - and you will get many good threads; likewise "venice restaurants". Any that mention Da Fiore are good threads. In fact, you will find threads with lists of URLs of other threads on venice restaurants.<BR><BR>5. Last of all, browse through Fodors Rants'n'Raves here on this website (see Hotels, right there at the op of the page?<BR><BR>This turned out to be the (fairly) lengthy reply I said I didn't have time to write. Your extreme lateness may be a blessing in disguise by preventing you of making the mistake of staying near Disneyfied, spoiled San Marcos square. The best square (early and late) is Margarita (written up as the true heart of Venice in Gourmet magazine). Maybe you can get into Dorsodoro or the "tail of the fish" areas which are quiet and nice. Never Lido, never off island! Hurry!

Hi Patty,<BR>Our family just go back from a fabulous 3 week vacation in Italy, and Venice has moved to the top of the list as one of the most magical cities. We were lucky enough to stay at FANTASTIC new hotel that has just opened on the Grand Canal. Our room was 184 euros with a 10%VAT tax and I would have paid twice as much! (which we probably will the next time we stay there, since that was their Grand Opening rate). They claim that this was the first hotel to open in 100 years on the Grand Canal. The staff was superb, can't say enough good things about this place. Easy walk to St Marks, Rialto, etc. The continental breakfast was very substantial served in an eleganty furnished breakfast room, with lovely service. It currently is a four star waiting for a five star status as soon as their restaurant is up and running. Since we were there in August, it was not full and they even upgraded two of our three rooms to suites!!! right on the Canal--a million dollar view!!!!!!! I loved it, (can you tell!!) Hi,<BR>Sorry about that> Judy.......it certainly wasn't meant to be a tease!!! The hotel's name is Palazzo Sant Angelo. At the time when I booked it in July, there was very limited info about it. I received an email asking about the hotel last evening, so I took a little more time to see if any more info was on the web. The good news is there is.... and it appears that they are still running special deals, except for weekend stays. (It seems that many people opt to go to Venice for that romantic weekent!!). My original booking was with www.sinahotels.com (a website for primarily 5* Italian hotels). This hotel <BR>is not a 5*, because it does not have a restaurant. Other websites that now have infor and photos are: www.hotelbook.com, www.utell.com and the most descriptive is at: <BR>http://santangelo.hotelinvenice.com. <BR>I believe you can still get the rate at www.sinahotels.com, but it is going into high season, but it is possible it is still available, because like I said..it is a new hotel. At any rate, it is a fabulous hotel! 5* in my book!!
