Sept. GTG in Atlanta

I posted this on the US board but was hoping some of you on the Europe board would be interested. We already have a small crowd coming! Hope you will be able to join us.

Ok folks, we've all heard about the great gatherings in CA, NY and recently TX and quite frankly we in/around Atlanta are jealous. It's time Atlanta takes a turn and shows our 'Southern' hospitality (or in my case, transplant hospitality).

How about Sat. afternoon, Sept. 17th. That gives anyone who would like to fly in a chance to be good Fodorites and get a deal.

If you're interested...email me at hotmail.com

I haven't booked a place as I want to know how much interest we have but will be contacting some places in Buckhead or Midtown.

Dear OneWanderingJew. I'm very interested but matters of health might keep me from flying up for it. I wasn't sure how to email you. I typed [email protected]. Was that correct? Regards, Joan

JoaN--That's exactly my email address but for some reason, I did not get anything from you. Do you mind resending the email? I really hope you can make it--feel good!

...To anyone else, hope you will join us!

I'd love to join in, but will be in Turkey then, so have a great GTG, and plan another for later!

I'm interested in meeting fellow travelers in Atlanta! I'm not 100% sure yet that I can make that date, but please tentatively count me in. OWJ, I will e-mail you. Thanks!

Hello All,

I'm sorry, but I'm new to this type of travel and was curious what GTG is?

Thanks!

Hi Cara,

A GTG is a Get-To-Gether.

Sorry One,

We will be in France then.

Best wishes for a good party.

Meredith--Do hope things work out and you can make it!

Ira--I was hoping you'd be able to attend as you are one of our more illustrious posters...enjoy your trip to France! Mind sending me a postcard--you don't have to write anything. I want to make a bulletin board for my classroom w/postcards from the regions we teach--N. America, S. America, Europe and Russia, Oceania...

I can give you my contact info if you email me [email protected]

Debbie, Even my son is interested in coming up to Atlanta with me. My daughter and her family get back in a couple of weeks from Greece, so I'll talk to her about coming up for the GTG, seeing some MDs at Emory and enjoying a few days with my grandchildren. Really sounds like it'd be fun. You know, the lady that writes the guide books Irelandyes is from Cobb County. Wouldn't it be great if she could come. Talk to you later, Joan

OWJ- I live in New York, but I'll be in Russia in September. Let me know if you want me to send you a postcard!

(I teach, too- I send postcards from Russia to each of my students when I go)

Katya--Would you mind sending me a postcard? That would be soo nice! I'd really appreciate it. Email me and I'll give you my address. I don't feel comfortable putting it on the net. Thank you so much! Maybe I should post something so I can get enough cards to fill my bulletin board!?

Joan--I'm so excited that you and yours will likely join us! Hopefully more people from GA/TN/AL and other areas will be able to attend.

Hope to be able to attend and I'll keep watching for further details. It's parents weekend at Georgia Tech and we should be able to get away for a few hours in the afternoon. Game is at 7pm. Thanks for organizing this!

Dear Debbie, We should also ask for those in North Fla. It's a easy tlight from Jacksonville. I remember a poster from there, just don't remember the name. When you firm up the place of the GTG, I'll start looking for a hotel within walking distance. Thanks for your time on this. Regards, Joan

Funny you should pick September 17th for the proposed GTG. I was already going to be in Atlanta that weekend for Wine South up at the Gwinnett Civic Center (or whatever it's called) in Duluth. Maybe we can combine the two events?

Seriously, though, since Wine South is an afternoon event, what about a nighttime GTG instead? I can promise this Fodorite and maybe a second if it's at night.

Sounds like fun and doable for North Carolina--alas--we will be in Greece this year.

Have a great GTG.

The GTG sounds like fun. I am in London until 29 Aug. and so won't be able to check my calendar until then. Please put me on the 'maybe' list and keep me posted.
