Sept. 2016 Apt. In Paris just cancelled---YIKES!

Last year in Oct. we rented the loveliest apt. On Ile St. Louis with a view of Th Seine & Notre Dame.

We loved it so much that we rented it again for 5 nights in Sept. This year.
Just got an "URGENT MESSAGE"----The apt. Balcony needs extensive work that will be done in Sept. & they offered us 4 other apt's, none of which are acceptable to us or 1/2 off the original, but there will be scaffolding and work being done. Which of course means no view or balcony, one of the reasons we loved it so much was THE VIEW.

So, it's back to the drawing board, or the computer, and the hundreds of apt. Options. Find one, Ooops! 4th floor, no lift....find another, nice but a small double bed, no view, wrong area, too modern, no style, etc. etc, etc.

I just had to vent my frustration.

Anyone have a good service they've used? Willing to go up to $500US a night.

I'd be careful -- the city offices are cracking down on illegal short term rentals.

Maybe look at Citadines . . .

You might check with habitatParisien, we found them easy to deal with.

Here are a couple to consider that I found on Vrbo and had bookmarked, the first one has just a sofabed but apparently a really comfy one?

Ummmm..yeah, right. They just got nabbed by the illegal apartment squad and are trying to duck for cover.

With a budget like yours, book a swanky hotel, with a view if that's your main criterion, or settle for an aparthotel.

Like it or not, this is going to happen to scads of other renters in the near future.

Meuh non.
It never happens. Who thinks so many apts are illegal ?
I would look more via booking.com than vrbo - at least if there is a problem, you deal with booking, not with the owner and someone saying (oops, you really have problems ? Ah, so bad...'.

-They just got nabbed by the illegal apartment squad and are trying to duck for cover.-

They offered the original apartment with scaffolding for 1/2 off. So presumably it really is renovation/scaffolding.

I would not want to stay in an apartment with work going on right outside though. Not even for 1/2 off.

It may just be me, but September in Paris is divine! If I were visiting then, I would be outside from morning till night.

We spend very little time inside an apartment, so view isn't all that important to us. Our views are best seen up close.

For $500 a night, and for 5 nights, I would opt for a really nice hotel with views.

IF having apartment conveniences [washing machine, kitchen for meal prep] is a big factor, I would give up the view for a legal apartment.

Hope you find something soon.

Certainly doesn't sound like "they got nabbed by the illegal apartment squad and are trying to duck for cover".

We stayed in this apartment in May.
http://www.parisvacationapartments.c...three-bedroom/

They have several in the inventory. The company's service was excellent, the apartment was in top condition and the location was very hard to beat.

The same thing happened to us two years ago. We opted to keep the apartment with a cost reduction.......it was a bit aggravating, but, we were out most of the day and only inside at night when the work had stopped......we didn't use the small balcony of course, but, the location was one that we loved, so we just poured another glass of wine and made due.

Last year the balcony was in some disrepair so we see the need for renovations.
We rented through Parisaddress.com

Why an apt?------We like to come in from 5ish to 8-9 when we go out for dinner. We like a nice place to listen to music, have a glass of wine, read, etc. A fridge for wine, ability to make coffee (all the cooking I do) while he goes to the bakery for breakfast.
We were willing to pay more than usual for the view, the boats going by, always something going on on the quay.

We did put a deposit down and hope to get it back.

We've sent emails to paris perfect.com. And guestapartment.com and hope to get a response.

I will check out all the helpful suggestions above.

Try vacationinparis.com you can call and see what is available with no problems since they have an office in New Jersey. You pay them before you go and if there is time they send you the key. So sorry TPAYT, I know you loved that apartment.

For someone that doesn't even live in Paris you really are obsessed with this "illegal apartment" issue.

TPAYT
I've read many of your posts and reports. Hope you find a suitable replacement. We will be there in September as well. Staying in an apartment in the upper Marais.

Janisj, how do you know they are illegal? Where can I find this info before I rent from them?

How about Guest Services Apartments? Most of theirs are on the isle. We had One a few years ago and it was great.
