Any suggestions on walking shoes that could actually be worn out to a restaurant for dinner as well?

Go to Talbots.com or get their a catalog for winter or spring/summer. They have lots of flat leather shoes or microfiber shoes that are comfortable and can be worn all day and out in the evening. For spring/summer trips, their espidrilles are also comfortable and pretty.

Among the essentials in my tote bag (along with map, notebook, guide book, umbrella, 'first aid kit', moist towelettes and hand sanitizer, etc) are a pair of slip on leather 'flats'. In the event that we find ourselves able to snag reservations at a restaurant that I am self conscious about wearing my walking shoes to dine in, I can quickly slip off the walkers and slip into the flats. (By the way, a small bottle of foot powder sprinkled into the shoes prior to slipping them is also 'essential'!)

Hi<BR>if you do a search here on shoes you will find many MANY past postings about shoe recommendations, including one thread not too long ago about comfortable shoes that have a modicum of style.<BR>There is a German shoe company called<BR>Theresia M that makes some low-heeled pumps (I have a pair) that are also very comfortable walking shoes. I wouldn't call them chic, but they're not as bad looking with a skirt or dress as my beloved Mephistos.

Munro makes very good walking shoes, even their microfiber shoes. Some of their slipons would be good for walking and not look out of place at dinner. (They make narrows and slims too!)

beautifeel's are well worth the money IMO.

Dansko clogs. I have five pair--they are orthopedically and podiatrically correct, I have never had sore legs with them (both touring and working), and you can get either open or closed-back styles that go with both pants and skirts, or shorts for that matter.

Good ole Mervyns and Target carry very sensible, classy walking shoes that I have found to be the most comfortable to wear. I wore a pair last month walking all around Italy, then going into restaurants at night. I buy the &quot;Mushrooms&quot; brand, it has cushioned insoles with air pockets which make it a VERY comfortable walking shoe. A pair in black or dark brown is unobstrusive and ok to wear every day.

Merrill's jungle mocs. Maybe not the dressiest, but they can go with pants other than jeans.

I love my Josef Siebel walking ankle boots. They are good for long hikes and I can wear them with pant suits and SOME skirts and dresses (depends on the look). Think the practicality of Doc Martens without the clunkiness and more finesse. YOu can find them at specialty shoe stores that carry a lot of hiking/walking shoes. They also have many styles to suit your taste. I bought one with clean, simple lines (for versatility), a smooth finish (easy to brush off dirt), and waterproof leather (because I like warm, dry feet).

Choose black as it is a color that doesn't bring attention to your feet and is easy to clean.Better comfy shoes than a grouchy face!!!

try landsend.com<BR>I have a pair of the all weather mocs and the sandals. Both are super comfortable and nice enough to wear out for dinner (especially the all weather mocs)<BR>They come in a variety of colours and are suede.

Try Paul Green walking shoes --- they are expensive but incredibly comfortable and many are rather stylish. Also Mephisto has a city line that is, again, very expensive but incredibly comfortable. Remember that you need shoes that will not only support your feet but cushion them against miles of walking on cobblestone.<BR><BR>Have fun ---M

Danskos - many styles - I wore them this past October in Italy - did lots of walking, very comfortable and they look great.
