Hi Sidepockets,
There's really too much to see in just 5 or 6 days --
But we can help you narrow it down and get you pointed in the right direction if you can give us some information --
Do you want to see mountains, lakes, rolling fields?
Do you want to stay in cities, towns, or villages?
Have you seen or heard of a part of Switzerland that you'd like to include?
Do you want fine dining or regional food; will you be visiting museums or taking hikes; do you want world-class shopping, souvenir shops, or only local shopping?
Give us your priorities, and we can help more!

We are taking 11 day Globus Tour of Switzerland, have some personal time. Stay in towns or cities, local shop, light hiking, see mtns, lakes, rivers, light hiking, see museums & castles. Eat different types of food. We are 70, if that will help. Thanks for reply.

Austria is a very long, somewhat narrow nation. From the Swiss border to Vienna is a long train ride.
What I did one year was to focus on Austria between Salzburg and the Ötztal.
We rented an apartment for a week, picked up a rental car in Innsbruck, and drove every day to some scenic destination in either Germany or Austria.
We ended by driving from near Innsbruck over the Brenner Pass into Italy, back into Austria, over the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse to Salzburg.
We turned our car in at the Avis agency in Salzburg and took the train back to Munich for the flight home.
I was almost your age when we did it.
It was a fun trip and an apartment is the way to go for stability.

Hi Sidepockets,
I think you should think about Scuol in the Engadin, which is on your way to Austria. From Scuol you can visit Guarda, Soglio, Ardez, and you can see the Tarasp Castle. More information at www.engadin.ch (then click on "Scuol". Lots of hiking and local shops & restaurants.
You can reach the lakes around St. Moritz/Sils by train.
Check train schedules at www.rail.ch.
Have fun!
