Self Guided Cycling - Alsace
Would appreciate if anyone can share their experiences with a "self-guided" cycling tour in Alsace - where a local company will arrange the hotel reservations for you, transfer luggage hotel to hotel provide clear directions with GPS and of course rent the bicycle. Any recommendations?
I am thinking for seven nights - traveling as a couple. |
Sure I've done this as part of cycling through the Pfalz (north of Alsace), along the Rhine and then into southern Alsace. The wines in the south are generally nicer than than those in the north. But this was 10 years ago or so and so assume stuff like shops have changed
Bike hire, the businesses tend to move around but use google maps and search for "bike hire" "location de vélos" and a few dots will light up. Click on them and dig in. Luggage transport, taxis will happily do this or shops might make recommendations. GPS, I'd use a phone. Avoid the route du vin as it gets filled up with tractors and tourist buses. https://www.visit.alsace/en/activiti...ing-in-alsace/ gives you the route. Plus you can use byways along but not through the vines. Alternative long distance routes exist along the Rhine or along the top of the Vosges. A company? https://www.headwater.com/holidays/c...ance/C05AS.htm might be the ones for you |
Just coming back because, I have used Headwater twice and they are very well organised. One year we had our bikes stolen and there was no quibble about it, they just asked us to stay at breakfast and new ones turned up by coffee time.

Thank you!
