Self Drive from Oslo, Norway thru Sweden and Denmark and back to Norway

Has anyone done this self drive? I plan to do it in 10 to 13 days. I wanted to take a train back to Oslo from Denmark. What is the cheapest and fastest way back to Oslo? Any suggestions are welcome on places to see and places to stay, along the route.

Cheapest is probably driving, given the cross-border drop-off fees that usually apply on one way rentals. Although "cheap" and "Scandinavia" don't usually come to mind in the same sentence.

I have only driven in the fjord area, and I suspect that most people would consider that the area of Norway west of Oslo that they want to see most. Unfortunately, Sweden is east of Oslo and Denmark to the south. For more help you need to specify your intentions with more detail.

Norway would not be the optimal place to start - it's the most expensive for car hire. Take the overnight ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo (or one of the other ferries between Denmark and Norway/Sweden). Sweden would involve a lot of boring driving through rather flat spruce forest. Denmark is flat farmland. Why not instead drive through the fjord area of Norway on national tourist routes - http://www.nasjonaleturistveger.no/en
