Self Drive Accommodation Options Scotland/England (without pre-booking)
 

Hello,
I am wanting to do a self-drive/self travel tour of appx 2 weeks in England and Scotland. I would like to do this trip in either May or September, as I don't want a ton of crowds, but want stuff to be open. The main problem I have is that I do not want to book every night in advance now, because I do like to have flexibility and meander. A long time ago, I did a trip in Ireland that basically had a booklet of B&Bs that we were able to pick out on any given night. However, this was before Airbnb was popular. I also did a trip through Northern France that I never had a problem getting a room on the same day, but this was also before covid, so I have no idea how this works now. Would I have problems getting same day accommodation with covid/airbnb? Are there similar programs?

Do you recommend May over September or vice versa?

There are holiday periods and special spaces where stuff gets difficult, so annual state holidays (bank hoidays) and special places

So you need to give us a bit more detail on roughly where and when.

Covid basically gone in England, still a bit in place in Scotland

If I didn't really care about where I would stay then don't book (see comments above)

May or September, depends on what you want to see. I'd choose May or June
