self catering cottages

we are looking for a romantic, but centrally located self catering cottage for our HONEYMOON!! in June. we were thinking that Kinsale or Galway would be good places to spend a week. any recommendations out there of places to stay or how to find them...we don't know where to start! THANKS

Hi ya Lisa,
Good luck with your wedding plans. Regarding the cottage remember that both Kinsale and Galway will be very crowded at that time of the year as it is peak tourist time and Galway at least will be busy. Check out either Donegal or the Midlands for quieter and cheaper places. In the Midlands there are some beautiful lake areas where you could rent a cottage (and it also withina day trip distance from Galway). One pkace I stayed was at Reynella House outside Mullingar - beautiful farm house etc. If you are interest post here and I will send you the tel number, Good luck with the planning

Cathy

Oh and stick Ireland in your post heading and you might get some replies

Cathy,
Thanks for the info! - this is my first time 'posting'. We kind of like a little activity within walking distance. We want to go out to dinner/pubs/shopping but back home to a cozy fire in the evening. I am also crazy about the ocean, but I like the idea of Donegal. It will be early June (5th-19th). Will it really be that crowded?
Lisa

I too am making wedding/honeymoon plans. A wonderful Irish travel site which has trip packages available is www.shamrock.org. It is partnered with Air Lingus, the Irish airline, so they have decent fares.

Just thought of a wonderful hotel or too Lisa and Playtus might like to check out - Tinakilly House, Wicklow very romantice, excellent food, four posetr beds etc with a view of the Sea, also try Mitchelle's of Laragh also in Wicklow - both are very about hour from Dublin and are very good if not pricey. In Kerry try the Parkcilla Great Southern Hotel once again for atmosphere and Reynella House in Westmeath (they also have cottages to rent too). Near the town of Kells (where the Book of Kells was written) is a wonderful house and gardens called Lough Crew. Just some extra tips, post if you need any extra help. If flying from the UK check out Ryanair for very very cheap flights to regional airports, good luck

I'd recommend Kinsale because it's on the sea, is close to Cork, Killarney and Dingle for day trips and has a lot of excellent pubs and restaurants. There are self-catering places there. I think one is called Abbeyview. You might try a company that specializes in Ireland. One that I have used is Lynott Tours.
