Self catering cottage Dorset/New Forest UK
I'm looking for self catering cottages in Dorset/New Forest area for next summer. Browsing, I find lots of websites but would like recommendations for reliable booking sites and/or specific recommended cottages (for 2-3 people). Thanks for your help!

My parents used to live in Dorset (between Dorchester and Weymouth)so I know it pretty well. When we were not able to stay with my folks, we rented a cottage from http://www.dorsetcoastalcottages.com/
We have rented 3 different cottages over 3 trips, and have been very pleased with all of them. Their website is well organized, and there are lots of photos of each cottage so you can see exactly what you are getting. Cottages are listed by area and number of beds, anywhere from 2 to 10 AFAIR.
They are also helpful if you contact them directly. They have specials out of season, and even for a November stay, the cottage we chose was cosy and warm, with a central heating and a fireplace in the living room. I would use them again in a minute!

you might also like to look at the official tourist board website which will list only inspected and graded accommodation but may be cheaper than that booked through an agency as the owners don't have to pay a cut to an agent.

Tourist Information Centres are good but many places have come out of the grading scheme this year to alleviate price pressure. If you are interested in an area Google maps is useful too and there are usually reviews attached.
There are lots of lovely places around here - we are biased and would recommend Burton Bradstock as it's a lovely village right on the coast with great places to eat including a beach cafe.
Don't leave it too late as there will be the Olympic Sailing events in this area next summer.
