Self-catering accommodation in Annecy France

I am looking for one (for maybe 4 to 6 people) and just have not come up with too many websites. A gite? An apartment? Part of a farm? In the general area of Annecy...

Anyone have any recommendations?

For a gite, go to gites-de-france.fr.

For an apartment, contact the Tourist Office in Annecy, or surrounding towns such as Rumilly.

If you are looking for this summer, it will be slim pickings, at this point.

Really? Oh dear - - even for the chambres d'hotes on the Gites website? I am looking at a lot of these for only three weeks away. Do you think that vacancy rates are already fairly low?

Better start making some phone calls!

Thanks for any clarification you have to offer.

Best wishes,

Rex

Oh... and to clarify... I did not mean that I am looking in the area of Annecy - - just chambres d'hote on the Gites website, generally speaking.

Were you referring specifically to Annecy?

I did write to one last night that offered an unusually low demi-pension rate of 33 euro (per person, of course) - - and they responded with "une proposition alternative" of the chambre avec pdj (only) instead. Apparently their fine print is that the rate of 33 euro is only for stays of three consecutive nights or more. They didn't say anything about being booked up.

I was referring to self-catering gites, rentals by the week, in the height of the season, i.e. June, July, August. I think you will have much better luck with chambres d'hote and especially in May to early June. Don't worry. Where are you headed?

I'm thinking after September actually.
Gites-de-france was little help. At least that is where I think I was...

My friend used to work there years and years ago...and wants to show it to me. Ah well, I'll let my friend figure this out.

In response to vedette (I acknowledge that this is at least partly hijacking Suzie's thread - - I have my own; click on my name and see "Paris to Bilbao&quot...

... we are actually not sure where we want to head. It will be just a short little getaway trip of only five nights. The first and fifth will almost surely be in the Loire and/or Sologne. From there, we though we wanted to go south(west) to the Perigord, Dordogne or Lot. But we are re-thinking, and at least allowing for the possibility of Bourgogne and/or Champagne instead - - for nights two, three and four.

SuzieC -- I just checked on gites-de-france.fr and the search engine for Haute Savoie seems not to be functioning. I'll try tomorrow and report back.
Rex -- I haven't been to a chambre d'hote in your areas, so no recs. Have fun.

A year or so ago I was looking for same in that area, and did not find much with Gites de France. I did find one I liked, but can't find the website now. It's a rental by owner (not vrbo)site, and has u.k. in title. Someone will come up with it, or when I'm back at work tomorrow, I can find it on pc there.

The gites-de-france.fr website for Haute Savoie is running fine today. Found several nice looking gites in mid September, but none in Annecy proper. This is not a surprise, as the gites are, by their nature and intent, rural.
