Selecting a Thameslink Station in London
 

I will soon need to travel from Cromwell Road to Luton Airport. Am I interpreting the timetable correctly when I conclude that express trains to the airport leave only from St. Pancras?

And that the trains only run every hour on the half hour?

Any information on this connection will be greatly appreciated.

The hourly train from London St Pancras to Luton Airport Parkway is operated by Midland Main Line, not Thameslink. The Thameslink Rail train, which runs 4 times an hour, leaves from the King's Cross Thameslink station.

The Midland Mainline IS an express: the Thameslnk makes a number of stops.

The Thameslink actually starts south of London - usually Brighton. Kings Cross Thameslink is just one of several stops it makes in central London: others include London Bridge, Blackfriars and Faringdon. All three of these have easier connections with the tube than KX Thameslink, which is an uncomfortable 200-300 yards suubterranean passage from KX tube. KX Thameslink is also an absolute bitch for taxi pickups and dropoffs.

Thanks for the info. I don't care who runs the trains, I just need to get to Luton for a flight.

I saw the St. Pancras train on the Thameslink schedule page, which was a pdf file.

I assumed it was Thameslink, but as I understand now, that is a different set up all together.

So I modify my question. How is the St. Pancras station?

Since a)St Pancras station is currently under reconstruction to become the terminus for the cross channel service in 2007, b)Midland Mainline is operating from a temporary terminal north of the existing terminal,c) a new thameslink terminal is being built under St Pancras to eventually replace the Kings Cross Thames terminal and d)Thameslink services to the north will operate from St Pancras after Sep 11, 2004, you would be well advised to read the St Pancras redevelopment information on www.midlandmainline.com prior to your journey.

How about if I take the bus from Victoria? Longer but simpler is the way it sounds.
Any suggestions on private car hire?
I know it costs more.
