Seine River Cruise

I am considering taking an evening cruise and deciding whether to do the sightseeing tour or the dinner cruise. Has anyone of you taken either of the cruise. How was the service and food? There are a couple of operator offering service..am considering Bateaux Parisien. I appreciate any comments

We did the Vendette?? (at the end of Isle de Cite) Pleasant tour and no meal. The ones with meals charge very high prices and I have read on here the food was not all that great. Our tour was nice with an English speaking hostess who narated the trip.

Hi Tates!
I've taken all of them at various times over the years (and brave enough to admit it!). The food is not great, but we've never had any issues with the service. We've done all of the main 3 lines (Bateaux mouches, Bateaux Parisien, and Vedettes de Paris). Of the 3, I liked the Bateaux Parisien the best (tour only byob). It departs from the quay directly across from the Eiffel Tower (the Trocadero is on the other side of the Seine). They all do the same thing -- Bateaux mouches, however, is located in a different spot on the Seine. The Bateaux Parisien had the best tour guide, speaking about 4 or 5 different languages. At night though, the best lights (shining on the quays, Notre Dame, bridges, etc.) were on Bateaux mouches. Bring a bottle of wine, and some bread and cheese, maybe some sausage and olives, and have a great time!

Thanks for the comments. Found the website for Bateaux Mouches and there rates were okey. I'll just eat dinner somewhere else. Any suggestions? one that is near their embarkment?

If you like seafood, I'd suggest Port Alma at 10, ave de New York which is right near the Bateaux Mouches loading point. It is a nice restaurant with SW France cuisine/heavy on seafood and has a good view of the Eiffel Tower. Here is a review of it by Patricia Wells:

http://www.patriciawells.com/reviews/iht/2000/1512.htm
I've taken them all and prefer Bateaux Mouches. Agree, don't take the dinner cruise. One thing I would say is that if it's raining and you're stuck inside it's really disappointing. The windows steam up and you can't see anything.

For a great dinner consider Mario and Janette at Pont d'Alma. Great seafood.

We took the Vendettes Pont Neuf cruise departing at 6:10PM. Cost = 9 Euro per person, but you can get a 2 Euro discount if you download the coupon from their web site or take the Notre Dame tour.

Arrived at 5:30, had a drink in their bar, and purchased a bottle of wine from their take-away shop for the cruise. It was a BYOB cruise, so we should have taken HuisClos' recommendations. Next time we will bring the wine, cheese, bread, etc. and enjoy.

Since it was February, the boat was only 1/4 full. The sunset cruise was great, especially seeing the Eiffel Tower lights in the evening.

Next time I'll try the Bateaux Mouches just to get another flavor.

The cruise was a very romantic "must."
