Seine or Thames River Cruise

If I have time for only one river cruise which would you recommend? Thames in London or Seine in Paris?

Neither.

There are much better cruises elsewhere.

These two are both pretty tacky.

I vote for the Seine. Both are interesting, the Thames in places is like a large harbor, so you may enjoy the Seine more.

I's say the Seine cruise, in the evening, but not for dinner, just the cruise. Rather than the Bateaux Mouches, try Vedettes du Pont-Neuf : From Le Pont Neuf, Square du Vert-Galant, Paris 1. Metro: Pont Neuf. Small boats. Live commentary.
In London, if you want to combine some shopping with a boat ride, try
The Camden Lock Market on Regent's Canal. Open Sundays 10-6. You can take the underground Northern Line to Camden Town, and then take a canal ride from Camden Town to Little Venice, an unusual part of London with floating restaurants. At the end of the boat ride, you can take the tube from the Warwick Avenue station (Bakerloo line), or a bus.

In Paris I recommend the cruise on the Canal St. Martin that takes three hours and runs between near musee d'Orsay and Parc de la Villette [sp?] I *think* this is their website: http://www.pariscanal.com/index-cont.htm

Tough call. We did the Thames cruise at night, and loved seeing the illuminated city from the river (unless you make it to the South Bank, you don't see Parliament, etc. from the river side).
I've done the Seine cruise several times, and I've always enjoyed it (the Vedettes has live commentary, so I always learn something new). So far it's been only the daytime cruises, but this forum has convinced me to do a nighttime one...

I have done both.. Enjoyed both. Night cruises are spectacular. Seeing Big Ben at Night from the Thames and the lights on The Millenium Dome are both special experiences. The Paris lights are equally fabulous from the Seine.
-Dave-
www.CrazyAboutTravel.com
