Segovia Hotel
 

Any recommendations for a great hotel in Segovia for October? We like 4 or 5 star within walking distance of downtown, or something with a wonderful view as we will have a car. Also, where would you say to dine there?

While we spent a very pleasant day in Segovia as an outing from Madrid, it surely didn't seem to warrant an overnight stay. We had a delicious lunch at Narizotas, a few blocks from the base at the Roman aquaducts(from the train we were dropped off via shuttle bus). We then walked up the hill, and the downtown consisted of a few streets really. It was mid-April and it was snowing there that day so we four nicknamed it Snogovia. Actually, if we were to do it over again, we'd opt that day for Toledo.

I loved Segovia at night! I was very glad I spent a night there, and I found more than enough to do there to keep me happily busy for day.

I enjoyed my stay at the Infanta Isabel, where I looked out over the Plaza Mayor ,with the Cathedral in view. It still seems to get decent reviews:

For dinner, do consider trying the roast suckling pig for which Segovia is known. It is awesome!

I spent 2 nights at the same hotel with the same great views.

And, you do have to eat the suckling pig in Segovia! I had reservations at both Meson de Candido and Jose Maria Restaurant. Both were excellent!

There are no 5-star properties in Segovia, but the 3-star Don Felipe is one of the best.

There are two Eurostars hotel that are fairly central and they claim that at least one is a 5*, hope they aren't lying as they put that on their webpage. It's a good location near Plaza Mayor.

I like the convento better, but that's just from looks. At least in a smaller city like Segovia, those kind of hotels are really cheap. Don Felipe is a good choice for mid-range, I agree.

I liked Segovia but wouldn't stay there overnight unless it were on my way somewhere else. Then it makes sense. I think maybe one thinks it is a bigger city than it is? Of course it does have central areas, all cities do, but the entire city is only about 50,000 population.

We also stayed in the same hotel as 'kja' and loved the location.

Eurostars has been buying up properties all around Spain, including the old 5-star AC Cordoba. The staff there wasn't quite happy with the working arrangement and reduction in pay after the AC hotels sold the property to Eurostars.

The Convento Capuchinos has gotten some decent reviews, but there have been some comments about being understaffed.

Because it's listed as a 5-star property doesn't put it in the same category as the Palace and Majestic in Barcelona or the Ritz in Madrid, both of which are 5-star. I guess you could say that not all 5-stars are created equal.

I spent three days in Segovia and loved every minute of it. I stayed at Hotel Acueducto, don't think it's five star but it's perfectly fine and the view from my balcony was to die for http://www.hotelacueducto.com/

Gypsy8 -- if you found a place that works for you, go for it!

I should have been clearer in saying that the Infanta Isabel might not meet your needs. As I understand it -- and I could be wrong! -- the star rating systems signify different things in different countries, so I tend to ignore them. ;-) I look instead at location, etc.

And @ isabel -- I agree with joannyc -- awesome pic!
