Segovia--Buying convent sweets or yemas?
 

I believe there is a convent somewhere in center of Segovia, Spain, where one can buy sweets at a convent. I think they are the typical yemas of Segovia? I'm told it's one of the cloistered convents where you ring a bell to get in, then buy the sweets from a nun by using a lazy susan. Can anyone tell me which convent this is, and where it's located? Thanks.

My advice is to not save those yemas for a special occasion too much longer after you buy them.

I doubt there are preservatives in them and are best consumed rather quickly.

I saved a box.. and as what happens to many of these special things I bother saving, I had to throw them away as mold had cropped up.

They are delicious, .. do buy them, but ENJOY them !

The same thing happened to me with yemas! I should have realized there wouldn't be preservatives in them - but didn't at the time. I opened up my box of yemas about 2 weeks after returning from a trip and they had mold on them.
Then there are the delicious almond cookies......

I have had the bad habit of saving my precious food times for a special occasion but am learning. . However, I DO think they should tell you they are so perishable. I am quite sure there was no warning anywhere. I mean, it IS a food product, so they should be obligated to state such an issue.

This is probably too late to be of much help but the Church of San Ildefonso is in Plaza San Ildefonso, Seville 41003. Opposite stands the Convent of San Leandro whose orchards border with the gardens of the house of Pilatos or Casa de Pilatos (used in the Orlando Bloom film, The Kingdom of Heaven). The gatehouse of this convent sells yemas made by the nuns. Phone number is +34 95 422 4195 and they open normal business hours.

Always good to have these addresses. However, if you are in a town, just ask at your hotel if there is a "convento que vende dulces" and they will direct to the nearest one should it exist.

Now the cloistered convents are interesting as they give yo the boxes of sweets through a turnstile, thus y never see the faces of anyone dealing with you. You only hear their voice.
