Segivia or Toledo
My family and I have time for one day trip from Medrid. Should we go to Segovia or Madrid? ....and why do you suggest this?
|
toledo used to be the capital of spain.. i do think there is more to see there. fun shopping, very steep streets for walking if that makes any difference.
however, segovia is also charming and the castle is very impressive. crispy roast suckling pig and lamb are regional specialties. you can also combine a tour, i believe that will include segovia and valle of the fallen and/or el escorial, two important monuments. checking out some photos of the towns will help you decide or reading about them in a book or here on destinations.. hard to choose between two such interesting cities. |
We did both as daytrips. While 9 out of 10 people here will tell you they prefer Toledo, I actually liked Segovia a little better. I definitely recommend both, though.
Here is a relevant page from our trip report... http://www.onelittleworld.com/madrid_2.html Hope this helps. |
Both places are good choices.
I think Toledo is more interesting if you really spend time going through the museums and churches and walking the streets. Definitely a lot to see and learn. I spent 1.5 days here and it's barely enough. For Segovia, you can see most of the landmarks from the outside in just 3-4 hrs on your own. Some tour companies combine this with another site in one day. |
Count me also as someone that liked Segovia better. If you go there, I recommend lunch at El Meson de Candido for their specialty, baby suckling pig. It's right next to the magnificent Roman aqueduct.
