Seeking suggestions for flights from Chicago to Ljubljana

I'm hoping someone can give me some assistance on finding the most reasonable flight prices between Chicago and Ljubljana, or else can someone recommend more reasonable airports within reach of Lju. as I'm trying to conserve as much $ as possible. Thanks.

Lufthansa code-shares with the Slovenian airline, Adria, so you could look for a Lufthansa flight to FRA with a connection to LJU. Lufthansa also is a member of the star alliance, so you could conceiveably get United miles for the whole thing. The other option is to look for a travel agency that specializes in travel to Eastern Europe -- I know of Polish and Hungarian ones, but not, off-hand for former Yugoslavia.

We flew Lufthansa from Newark to Munich where we p/up our rental car. Spent first night in Austria and last in Chiemsee, Germany. Worked very well for us. If you are not renting a car then there would be other options-the lower car cost was part of the reason we flew to Munich.

Klagenfurt, Austria may be less expensive. It is only about 1 hour away and the Slovenian Highway system is superb. Another option may be Trieste, Italy. It is also about an hour away but I think that is a more remote possibility. I know many people in Ljubljana and their second choice is Klagenfurt. Also, Cross Air/Swiss flys in so connecting through Zurich is a possibility.
good luck, it is a beautiful city!
Jan

We bought tickets through Panadriatic (a travel agency in NY specializing in tickets to Croatia. We're flying from Seattle in and out of Zagreb (about 3 hrs by train from Ljubljana). The price was excellent and we'll be flying NW/KLM and Croatia Air. It took a little while to get the tickets but everything seems to be in order. Worth a try.
