Graziella - Once again you have great practical advice to offer. I truly appreciate your help. I feel that I'm close to having my itinerary worked out.

I haven't heard of the Sol Melia hotels before and your recommendation on the Mas Card is excellent, so I will use that when looking for hotels. Thank you SO much.

Jen,

For all the help, you owe us a trip report, pictures of Spain, and may be a pound or two of Jamon Serrano. Okay, just the first two will do Have fun over there.

Comfy, Fair enough!! And rather than bring it back, how about I eat a pound or 2 of jamon serrano just for you!

Fair warning though - I'm not done asking for advice yet... I still need to figure out the trip details. But that is the fun part!

Hi, jjfern,
I don't know if this would help with your time crunch, but have you considered the possibility of going to Salamanca directly from Segovia, instead of backtracking to Madrid? That would mean that you would arrive in Salamanca the night of your day trip to Segovia instead of driving back to Madrid and then up to Salamanca the next day. The distances are, according to my maps:
Segovia - Salamanca 178 km
Madrid - Segovia 91 km
Madrid-Salamanca 205 km
I think you'd save a fair bit of driving time that way.

Hello Jen, Okay, so long as you consume couple pounds of Jamon Serrano, you are excused from having to bring it back

It is very good that you are trying to be thorough. I really felt my trip was several times as interesting as the average trips in the past because of the anticipation of what I expected to see.

lreynold - thanks for your input. I do not plan to rent a car for this trip - since I would need it for only 3 days. However, I am looking into train and bus schedules to see if it would be a better option to stay in Segovia one night and then head directly to Salamanca from there. Next stop from Salamanca is Seville, but I haven't been able to find any direct options that don't transfer in Madrid, so I believe it will be best to go through Madrid to reach Seville.

Hi jjfern,

If you check www.auto-res.net, you'll see there are two buses from Segovia to Salamanca, one at 9 a.m., one at 6 p.m. They take about 2 hrs. 45 minutes.

And on www.movelia.es, there are several direct buses, run by Alsa, from Salamanca to Sevilla. Leaving Salamanca at 1 a.m., 10, 12, 2 pm, and 6, and it's about an 8 hour ride.
Buen viaje.

are you going to be in BCN for la merce fiesta? (24th september) if not i recommend revising the itin. a little. its amazing. look on google.
Also good area guide and vacation apartments for Barcelona(which is an extremely economic option if youre staying here 3 nights):

Otherwise, I'm very jealous of your itinerary!
