Seeing Paris with a local (no fee)

Somewhere in my planning for this April's trip to Paris, I recall seeing information about a program where a local resident will walk around town with you; no charge involved. My senior moment mind is failing me in finding this again. Anyone?

I went to another of my groups and got the answer to my question. Here's the link for anyone else interested.

I am glad you had a senior moment. I have never heard of the service, sounds fantastic. I will definitely use it next year.

A year later, but I just wanted to say how much my friend and I enjoyed our "volunteer" - she showed us through the private gentlemen's travel club where she worked (a stunning mansion on the Champs ordinarily closed to the public); took us via bus to Montmartre, her own neighborhood, and walked us all over to spots we would never have otherwise found. She even joined our small group for dinner. I highly recommend this marvelous program, and it's totally free! The only caveat is that there has to be a volunteer available on your dates.

This is the correct website for Paris Greeter:

http://www.parisgreeter.org/PdJ/

It does look as if you need to fill in the contact Paris Greeter form to contact them directly as it is not clear how things would get done through the website. It does sound like a great idea--especially for repeat travelers who want to see something off beat.

palette, I am so glad you reported back to us. I have contacted them for our trip in May requesting some "off the beaten track" experiences. I love architecture and my husband likes Victor Hugo etc, so we mentioned this in our request. I haven't heard anything back just yet, but it was only a few days ago that I sent the request. I hope we get as lucky as you. They do ask for a donation to keep things going, was this the case for you last year?
