The previous thread on airline security and carrying of shavers makes me wonder about the confiscation of knives from passengers . Guess what you are given for dinner? Metal knives!! #o
On our last flights they were almost like steak knives!

Agreed...an intriguing situation just as the closure of end-of-carriage luggage racks on TGVs "for security purposes."

Now you are lucky and you get to sit directly underneath the explosives!

I've flown probably 5 different airlines in the past 3 years, at least 5 or 6 times each year. I haven't seen a metal knife on any of those flights (at least back in coach where I sit).

We flew Air France this past month. Dinner came with all metal utensils including a serated knife.

I've flown to France about a dozen times since 9/11, and until about a year ago always (on United) got a packet with a plastic knife and metal fork and spoon (which struck me as ridiculous - you can't use a metal fork as a weapon?). Last time, all three utensils were metal.
I don't have a great deal of faith that the airlines, or anyone else for that matter, really has a handle on security issues.

In the past 2 years, every flight out of the UK that I've been on, in any class - even travelling in the pointy end - has had plastic cutlery and plastic "glasses".

But on seriously long flights, metal utensils have always been loaded when refuelling at an Asian airport.

Presumably Grimmy is flying from one of those airports that are just sloppy on security.

I fly out of Philadelphia and yes its been known to be sloppy.
By the way the glasses were real too and I was in economy.

In AA business class the cutlery has been heavy-duty plastic for the last two years.
