Security and Lost Luggage

I really don't mind giving up my luggage to be checked, but for the fact that by keeping it with me I ensure that it won't be lost!

E_M, depending how things go in the future we may have to check all luggage, including carryon's. Who knows? Things are changing day by day.

I quit taking anything of value after 911..and the less I take on a trip the better I like it. I never thought I would say that but it is true.

Now for business travellers it is another different story. But their employers will have to figure that one out..laptops etc.

I normally carry my valuables with me including mobile and camera. I like having a change of clothes just in case but I can buy new stuff if my luggage gets lost/delayed.

What worries me is that lots more valuables may go missing. We've already had reports from others on this forum of valuables taken out of checked luggage. Now with the valuable having to be checked who will be responsible for missing things? Dishonets handlers will have a field day.
And does this mean that the liability limits for checked luggage imposed by the airlines as well as their exceptions (camera is an exception!) will be changed?

And we have to figure out how to bring 1 or 2 fragile items we wouldn't want to check in :(

But there are some things that I just can't let go...like my contact lenses, solution, and eyedrops. While I don't wear them when I fly, I need them when I get off, as glasses can't fix my eyes entirely.

When I fly AA on those little puddle jumpers, I hand my luggage to the attendant when I get on, then pick it up when I get off. That's fine. It's just when I have connections and so forth...what if I miss one and need to reroute? There are just some things that I can't afford to let go. :(

Hi E_M, you can take your contact lenses on the plane with you as I understand it. Put your contact solution in your checkin luggage. If for some reason your luggage does not "arrive" when you do contact solution can be purchased at so many places..that shouldn't be a problem. Best regards!
