Secure Site for ParisShuttle Reservation?
I am attempting to make a reservation for the ParisShuttle (to the hotel) but after finding the webpage, there is not a secure site. Since it requires a credit card number, I do not give that info except on a secure site (DUH!) so how are you people making reservations???I'm wanting only to go TO the hotel - and taking a taxi BACK to the airport by the way. Any advice appreciated!

I can't answer your question, but I'm curious. The one negative I've seen about taking the shuttle instead of a taxi from the airport to the hotel is that once you arrive you have to actually call the shuttle, and often wait anywhere up to an hour. This would really bug me, when I arrive tired from the flight, and could just walk out and get a taxi right away. But on the other hand, you can preschedule the shuttle to pick you up at your hotel to take you to the airport. So I'm curious why you would do the shuttle in and a taxi out? I'd think it would be more logical the other way around. What am I missing here?

If the Web site has an email address, write to the company to make the reservation. In your email, also ask if you can send them the credit card number via telephone. This is the method I use for Web sites that lack SSL protection.

I think the reason why someone might want to take the shuttle to the hotel and a taxi to the airport (which would be my preference if I wanted to take one, but I don't) is that there is no deadline upon arrival. If the shuttle is late, you have to wait, or even doesn't show up, it doesn't really matter that much. You'll get to your hotel somehow sooner or later with no problems. If they don't show up or are late to the airport, you can miss your plane.

I suspect folks are just giving CC info on an insecure site, as there doesn't seem to be an alternative. There are other shuttle services, though, that do not require you to prepay or give them a CC for a reservation. I am making no recommendations for services or price, but there are other choices:
www.airportshuttle.fr
www.shuttleparisien.com

Thanks for the expanation Christina, I guess maybe I kind of, sort of, in a way see the point.

As to the insecure vs. secure site, I guess I just don't worry about it. I usually book up to 40 or 50 hotels a year (mainly in Europe) and nearly all on the internet. I almost always give my credit card on them -- and rarely is there any indication of it being a "secure" site. I haven't had a problem, and don't worry about it even if I did. Credit card protection is so great these days, that even if someone did somehow use my credit card number, I'd be exempt from having to pay for those charges.

Patrick,
well, Christina had it just about right. We are coming in from Venice about noon (not that long a flight) and I really don't care if we go directly to the hotel. I thought it would be interesting to see a bit of Paris that way! However - leaving is a different story. We will be catching our flight back home to DFW and we don't have boarding passes or even assigned seats (biting nails). The last time I called (this week) they assured me that we WOULD have a seat, but that the people at the gate prefer to give out the assignments. Well, my husband is big and tall and needs an aisle seat (if we are ever to travel again!) So we want to arrive at the airport in plenty of time to make the arrangments.
I guess I will email them - I really don't feel comfortable giving out the CC number without a secure sight - but you're probably right in not worrying about it..

And thanks, Christina, for the additional websites! I will check them out.

I used ParisShuttle in May 2000 with no problem. Only waited maybe 1/2 hour for pickup, probably less. I booked thru their website and, frankly, didn't even look to see if it was secure. Received an e-mail back stating confirmation. The only problem for the return was that they had scheduled the return pickup too close to departure. They were a little upset when I called the day before to confirm - should have corrected it immediately. And, they were right on time for my departure back to CDG and for my sister's 3 weeks earlier (I was there for a month).

Brahmama--

Here is the link we used- they accepted a CREDIT CARD in Paris and NOT beforehand....So no need to worry-

If you are a family of 5 and will have a van to yourselves, they WILL meet you inside the airport just outside the Customs Hall with your name on a card...

If you are a single person, then I think you have to call from the airport and they are outside the airport exit--

No need to send a credit card anywhere-and are veryu reliable...

[email protected]
