Secret spots in Paris?
 

I am meeting my adult daughter in Paris in a week and a half and was wondering if anyone has places or things to do or see that aren't in the tourist guidebooks. I have spent alot of time in Paris due to my job with the airlines and my layovers but was looking for different places to go or eat at that would make my mother-daughter week more memorable? Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Friends took our suggestion of going up on the tethered balloon in the parc André Citroën. They said that it was a wonderful alternative to the Eiffel Tower.

Because I was intrigued by one of Kerouac's posts, we spent an afternoon during our last trip to Paris exploring the charming Mouzaia neighborhood in the 19th Arrondissement. It was one of the highlights of our stay.

I stayed with some grad students in Paris and they took me to the French Catacombs. These are in some guidebooks but not others. Definitely not a first-tier destination. These Catacombs are all about the French Revolution. If you can read French it's a more rewarding visit. My friends translated all the quotes about death etc for me. It was an odd, odd experience.

I also was fortunate to stumble upon a free organ concert notice at Notre Dame. That gave me a totally different perspective of a famous place.

Stop at the local tourist or cultural center and look for the little handwritten notes about events. You could find a gem.

The Place du Furstenburg just off Rue Jacob is a charming surprise which often appears in films. The tiny Delacroix Museum is there too, slight but pretty.

I always have ideas. Sometimes I even cross the Paris city limits.
