I have always been interested in how worldwide travel reduced xenophobic emotional repsonses in travelers. First of all, you need to examine history for examples of just how dangerous xenophobia, left unchecked, can become. Probably the most infamous example is the xenophobia that in part led to the atrocities of the Holocaust of World War II. But in general, throughout history in many places around the world, xenophobia and xenophobic thinking has led to many atrocities, such as terrorism ethnic cleansing, genocide, and racism and discrimination, to name a few.My thesis would be that
Total Travel Distance is indirectly proportional to Xenophobia A thesis around that might have merit with a well crafted survey surveymonkey.com good tips... Good luck with your studies!!!! |
Am sure freemasons were active in Prague -just like everywhere else. No one is taking tours about freemasonry anywhere - this is simply not one of the topics in which most tourists are interested.
As for ghosts and witches and hauntings - now you've lost me completely. The next thing will be someone doing a tour on how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. Agree that a study of xenophobia would have a lot more substance-although I'm not sure how much work has already been done in that area and where you would be jumping off from. |
Why would secret societies in Prague not be an interesting topic? I think it has merit. I assume it does have to do with freemasonry, but since this is - worldwide - such an active movement, I am convinced there would be interest in it. And maybe there are other societies. I for one would be happy to learn about them, not being an expert on Prague.
As for the idea that no-one is taking freemasonry tours - well, why not think of this as an original initiative? Lavandula |
Knowing the the unique history of Czech lacrosse I wonder if there are any lacrosse oriented secret societies, like Princeton University's HAF or the Psilocybe Lacrosse Society, centered in Prague. It seems like there might be.
For those who aren't familiar HAF is a drinking club comprised of alumni of Princeton University's lacrosse team who get together once a year to drink a trophy full of beer under the motto "When you are with friends the glass is always half full." What little is known about the Psilocybe Lacrosse Society that was founded at Johns Hopkins University can be read here http://psilocybelacrosse.bravehost.com . |
Well, one of the things I was thinking of when reading the original post was the language societies (Sprachgesellschaften) in 17th century Germany - they had a few Bohemian (i.e. Czech) members, but I doubt that they are the secret societies the OP was talking about. I would not think they are that widely known about in Germany even, unless you have studied Germanistik at university. But they count as secret societies to the extent that members addressed each other by a society name, and membership lists revealing the true names of members were not published in some cases until the 18th century, when they were mostly a spent force. They are not related to the Freemasons, they came and went before that time. And I don't know that they would have left many architectural symbols, I think they just weren't into that sort of thing.

Paris and Rome have these types of tours around Dan Brown's
Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons series more about the books though... they were really hot when the books/movies came out but are rapidly fading in popularity Take a Da Vinci Code tour in Paris and see scenes from the movie.http://www.paris-tours.net/?event=of...&offerId=10834 Prague less interest no book or movie to feed it.. Hence I doubt it would fly unless you can interest Dan Brown in writing his next book there... His Latest Book "The Symbol" about Masonic Influence in Washington DC will be a movie soon tours have started there. It is a good read semi-based in actual fact as usual sensationalized widely for effect... |
Oops correct title is "The LOST symbol"
Best-selling author Dan Brown casts a light on power and intrigue in the nations capital in his newest thriller, The Lost Symbol. Professor Robert Langdon is back again ... washington.org/visiting/experience-dc/the-lost-symbol So write a hot book you will be fine otherwise not. |

________ Raise your hands if you have a deeper apprecaition of the French or Germans after encountering their tourists? |
I think the OP is studying us
The Fodorite secret society is so secret, even I dont even know who our grandmaster is yet. If you draw straight lines from Adu, to Ira, to cold and then back to me, you arrive at a small internet cafe in PA Amish country. |
I did not realize that was you with the Mennonite Grande.
|
Just what I want - a tour semi-based on actual fact and then sensationalized.
Maybe I should stop going to europe and just keep going to Disney - to see Italy land, France land etc. |
And here I thought that Obama's Stimulus I was bad in part because it gave a $1 million grant to a UNC scientist to study whether Ugandans who washed their genitals got AIDS less frequently than the unwashed.
It seems Czech academia is equally, well, ignorant. |

Apparently I got the name and URL of the latter society wrong. It should be the Society of the Psilocrosse with their URL being http://psilocrosse.clanteam.com . This particular website is for a Canadian society but perhaps they would be aware of something in the Czech Republic. |
