Second time in Paris.
 

This is our second trip to Paris. Saw all the major museums and sights the first time. Will definitely return to Musee D'Orsay and the Louvre, but would like some advise on seeing some of the other sights for our second visit. We want to take a day trip to the Loire and see the chateaus.

You saw ALL the major museums and sights the first time? YOu get the médaille d'or for that for sure!!!

Rather than have us shoot in the dark, you might want to give us a list of the museums you have seen.

On my second visit, I saw lots of museums I'd missed the first time, including Orangerie and Petit Palais, which I highly recommend. As always, I re-visited Louvre and Orsay. I'd also recommend Marmottan if you've not already been. I still haven't seen many museums there I'd like to.

I'd also take a day trip or two. I've been to Versailles and Giverney and loved both.

The Rodin, the Cluny, seeing a performance at Opera Garnier, hearing a concert at Saint Chappelles and St. Julien de le Pauvre (sp), Pere Lachaise Cemetery, walking, walking, walking - enjoy.

How many months was the 1st visit?

We have been to Paris for at least 7 weeks over many years and are still working on the list.

The Quai Branly Museum has recently opened.

Some people still manage to travel faster than others and come away satisfied.

Tobyl, you'll actually get more useful information if you heed the advice to state where you have already been.

One person's definition of "major" may not agree with someone else's.

Forgive the cynicism of some...they are usually quite helpful.

I've been to Paris many times, but have never been to the Loire to tour chateaus. Sounds wonderful. If you haven't been to Versailles I'd do that. Anyone else have specific info on the Loire chateaus for Tobyl? Enjoy! :) Melissa

I don't think that anyone is being cynical: disparaging, disrespectful, mocking, sarcastic, sardonic, satirical, scornful, smart-alecky or sneering, perhaps.

hmmmm...5 times and I haven't been upclose and personal with the Eiffel Tower yet...its a beauty from far away though!
Next time...

I will return to the Carnavalet next time as well - I enjoy history in context. (And I'll eat falafel in the Marais!)
I was enthralled by the archeological crypt in front and downstairs of Notre Dame.
The Cluny is beautiful.
I want more music in my visit next time, as well...

Recently went to the Petit Palais..fabulous. There was also a lovely exhibit at the Bibliotec(sp?) Nationale on French photographer Atget. Also do not miss the Marmatton, Orangerie and Jacquemart-Andre. Everyone has their own passions. You just have to find yours.

Add the Orangerie. It is now open is it not? It was closed for centuries it seemed while some ancient Roman wall was unearched brick by brick and sliver by sliver.

Jacquemart Andre is worthwhile to the extent I rate about a 6 to the d'Orsay's 7 on a scale of 7 with 7 being A+.

Other than that, a little jewel, a miniature ruby of flawless quality, is the Hôtel de Soubise at 60 rue des Francs-Bourgeois. The green Michelin Paris guide has a good description.

My major disappointment was the Picasso Museum. I did not think it worthy of the artist, but perhaps I was saturated that day with Jacquemart-Andre.

Not knowing what you saw out of town, I was one who was captivated by Vaux-le-Vicomte. And Fontainebleau is such an easy day trip from Gare de Lyon that I encourage considering it if you have not been there.
