Seating on Trains

I am looking to book tickets on an ICE train. But I was wondering if I could details on better seats. Have to take 2nd class so is the 2 seats by themselves the best or the ones that face each other with the table better?

Do you like facing someone else? Do you plan on doing anything for which that table might come in handy?

No I don't, just me and friend trying to get back to Berlin

From where? Longer trips where I'm going to play card games or something with my friends, I like the one facing each other.

Shorter trips, side by side, because generally I HATE being in the seat going backwards.

It is from Mannheim to Berlin after 2 weeks of solid traveling and just heading back to Berlin to finish the trip

That's about 5 hours. If you plan on talking to each other or playing games, face each other, but ONLY IF you can get the 1 on 1 facing each other vs. 4 with 2x2.

If you just want to crash, read a book, and not interact, then side by side.

Love the ICE, except the night train.

I mean we will talk a lot but I think sitting side by side will be easier. Thank you so much for the help!
