As a 6'4 240 pounder, I will only travel BA WT Plus or equivalent if the flight is over 3 hours. I flew home from the US a few times on Delta and was that uncomfortable. My knees just don't fit in. And reclining is not an issue as they are jammed against the back of the seat in front.
Ordinary emergency exit is the solution if you can get it and don't want to pay.
In BA WTP there is often a row just behind the front row which has no seat in front of it at the window. leaves easy access and unlimited legroom. Look up the BA seating charts to see what I mean.
Personally I will always pay the extra few hundred Euro.

I can;t believe that ayone over about 5'3" is comfy in coach. I'm only 5'9" - granted I do have long legs - but I'm not a grasshopper - and my knees almost touch the back of the seat in front of me on all coach flights. If I were a couple of inches taller they woud push into the seat.

I think the emergency exit rows are the best answer. (And I too hate the bulkhead rows - on the regular rows you can at least stretch your feet under the seat in front.)
