seating at Royal Albert Hall

I'm trying to buy tickets for the Proms at RAH, but having trouble figuring out their seating chart. The site said people stand in the arena. Then how do people see the show who are seated behind them? We don't want to pay a lot of money, nor do we want to be too far away to see anything. What would be a good seat? Thanks!

Jon, I have been in RAH 3 times for concerts. The area that one of the seating diagrams shows as "standing" is where I sat in a fairly good seat.
The other diagram on the web shows Area 3 and indicates seating.

I know this much, you do NOT want to be in the 3rd upper tier because you are high above and far away. The stalls are usually expensive.

I suggest you call the box office and talk to them. Given the common language we do have that option.

The last time I was there I ended up with a ticket change and a box seat.
I was surprised, but it was nice. First time I ever had to be let in through a locked door to a theater or auditorium seat by a man with a key.

Given the discrepancy in seating diagrams. I think you should call.
Here is a clip with the phone number in case you do not have it.
Buying tickets by phone:
Telephone booking opens on 16 June. Call the Royal Albert Hall Box Office on 020 7589 8212 between 9.00am and 9.00pm daily.

There is 5 hours time difference between EDT and London.

the last time i went i had a wonderful conversation via telephone with the boxoffice...they were very nice and helpful....

try using the ultra cheap 10/10 number...i recently had a 37 minute conversation with london for $1.81 at mid-day..: dial 101-6400 and then dial your full london number...no service fee

I've been there twice and found the tickets extremely reasonable for that caliber of concert compared to where I live, so I bought the best seats available, which were great. Basically, the floor where people stand is a little lower than the closest seats, I believe, so it isn't a problem.

I got a box seat once which was really fun. I'd never had one of those before and found out from comments online that those are mostly private subscriptions and sometimes they sell the fifth seat in the rear to the public. I had visions of not seeing anything but it turned out great. There were four people in front and I had this kind of high chair behind them but the view was still great and I discovered one advantage of those private boxes is that you can take wine back to your seats. Another time I had first tier, I think, and that was an outstanding location--I heard Martha Argerich do the Ravel Concerto in G (I actually went to London mainly for that which sounds bizarre but true,as she's one of my most favorite pianists -- actually, I wanted to go somewhere and that decided it).

Those box and stalls seats weren't that expensive as I recall, only about 30 pounds maybe (I have to pay up to US$70 where I live for that caliber of performer). I just booked online for the best ticket available and got pretty good seats.
