Seat reservations

I will be in Italy taking the train. How do you know if you need seat reservations?
I will be going from Venice to Naples and Naples to Florence.
I will have a railpass.
Thanks

Find the train you want to take at

http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Click on "Dettagli" and if there's an R in a box in the right-hand column, you have to have a seat reservation.

You will probably need a reservation for most of the legs you will travel - all of the Eurostar Italia trains require them, and some InterCity trains too.

Thanks, Should I buy them before I leave?

There is frequent service on your routes so there is no need to make reservations from home. It's much cheaper to do it in Europe. Just make them a day or two before you're ready to leave each city.

I don't know your whole plans, but if those are the only two trips you're taking, point-to-point tickets will be much cheaper than a railpass, plus you still have to pay a fee for the reservation with the pass.

SusanP.
I am also doing France on this trip so the railpass works out better.
Thanks
