Searching for Mykolaiv, in all the wrong places.

The like the Fodors cookie byte monster got this one too. It has an insatiable appetite.

This isn't a reply, it's my original message that wasn't posted.

Actually, I know where Mikolajev, Mykolayev, Nikolaiv is located and I will be there in April '99. I would appreciate any comments on the hotels "Ingul" or "Metallurg" (get those practical Russian names). Also, any comments on the hotel ship "T. Schewtchenko" in Odesa, or the "Oreanda" in Yalta?

Bob, I found a way to beat the cookie monster. Maybe, just maybe, my old gazeteer is the answer. There simply is no Mykolaiv. But there is a Nikolaev at
at 46.58 N, 32.1 E.

Conde Nast Traveler had an article last year on Odessa. They may have it on their Web site. I remember them recommending Taras Shevchenko as the only decent place to stay in the city. Other """upscale""" hotels in Odessa are Krasnaya (Red), Londonskaya (London), and Chernoye Mor'e (Black Sea).
