Seafox returns from Paris
 

I have lots to shatre - will do it in several threads....had really good food this trip :-)......

....to start, we stayed at the rentparis.com apartment at 40 rue Chapon this time. having been in 20 rue Chapon we were perhaps spoiled. The apartment is much smaller and perhaps even tight for a couple over 35 (well, okay over over 45). It is two floors, perhaps a 12X12 room on top of another with a very small kitchen and a small bath. But, it worked! We were there 10 days and felt comfortable after a few days........and the bed....a King was very comfortable. Rent Paris needs to do some work on the kitchen's utensils,plates etc...I'll share that with them, It is a good value at 95 EU/night.

alright let's talk about food:

First night did a touristy thing and wandered into the Latin Quarter close to Seine by Notre Dame. Had a great Raclette at "La Harpe". For those who have not had raclette before, be sure to do so. It's my favorite alternative to fondue. I even have a grill here in the US....friends love it. Did some adventerous Morrocan eating this trip. "La Medina du Marais" on Rue des Graviliers was very nice, had a lamb Tagine that was great...they allowed for a side order of cous cous too. Similarly, we ate at "404" on the same street....very casbah feeling...graet food, be sure to have the mint cocktail...reservations are a must.....I highly recommend "404". My favorite lunch stop has be come "George" at he top of the Pompidou Center....it's very Phillipe Stark, modern, views of the city to die for...wear black...a chic crowd is there at lunch (sat next to some famous football players).....$20 for a club sandwhich.... a really good club sandwhich....

Finally got to "Au Bascou".....food was terrific...a little smokey inside, but the food made up for it.

Made the required stop to "Ma Bourgonne" on Place du Voge. Portion of steak tartare was HUGE....I couldn't eat it all....on that topic, I do like the tartare at the Brasseries in the Hotel Du Lovre better.....

Ate in a few nights, noticed a great jarred asparagus sauce next to the pasta sauces in Fran Prix....heated it up on fresh raviolis...very tasty with wine and bread. Also tried the pre-made/packaged lentils and sausage in the cooler section....not bad either for a quick dinner....with wine and bread of course........sorry about typos and spelleing....

Had to go nibble on the cooling cornbread dressing after reading your eating adventures!

That's my job, folks, to bravely taste the food before presenting it to my trusting family! Which also explains why the turkey mysteriously molts most of its golden brown, roasted, and basted skin before reaching the table.

Welcome back, seafox! Au Bascou was one of our favorite dinners in Paris.

I have sworn to stay in an apartment next trip so we can sample more of the market food.

At that price I sure hope it came with freedom fries, a green sald and a large coke!

sorry Degas, just some home made chips, mayo and mustard...perhaps the exchange rate will get better and it will only be a $12 treat.....maybe in 4 years

Seafox - found this old thread when searing for rue chapon. We are renting the apartment at #40 from rentparis.com next month. It sounds like you thought it was OK but just a little small after being in the larger one. What else can you tell me about the apartment, your experience with rentparis.com, and the neighborhood? Also, a question I am having trouble getting answered from them (they respond quicly to my emails but never seem to notice the question) is: can we get more than one set of keys? Do you remember if you had more than one set of keys? Anything you can share about the place I'd love to hear. Thanks

Hi Isabel. yes, I believe we did have 2 sets of keys. The apartment is small, but we had fun in it. I would guess the living room area to be about 12 X12 witha kitchen that is about 5X 4 to the side. There is a big comfy sofa and a not so comfy side chair. A very narrow circular stair goes up to the bedroom directly above th living room. The bath is on the second floor ...again small but it has everything. As I recall it was a pretty significant step up into the tub/shower.... just FYI. We did have a lot of problems with the VCR, make sur Fabrice shows you exactly how to use it. They are a very good company to work with - never a problem and they are attentive.
