Scrovegni Chapel at Night-Padua

How is the ligthning at night? We'd like to take advantage of the Double Slot Option which is only offered in the evenings and nights. Thanks

If I remember correctly, even in the day time, the chapel is lit by electric lights. They probably block out most sunlight as that's damaging to the frescoes.

I know you also asked about the Padua card. Fodorite 111op did the card + double session a few years ago. I pulled up a thread that is somewhat relevant:

A tip: bring a pair of binoculars or opera glasses. You can see the top level frescoes much better that way.

I visited at night. It's very well-lit by electric lights and even easier to see details than when I originally visited and had to depend on a few measly lights and the minuscule windows.

yk -- thanks for pulling up that thread. I've been searching like crazy, but hadn't come across that one thread which is very helpful in explaining how it works...plus it was nice to see that it wasn't just me who found the booking site so confusing as to what is available!

ellenm, thanks again for more information. I think we will do a double slot at night. I gather you have visited Italy a lot?

yestravel,

I've lost count on the number of times I've visited Italy . . . more than 20 anyway.

On my first visit to Italy in 1983, we visited the Scrovegni Chapel. In those days you just walked up to the front door, paid 500 lire, and walked in. It was September and the door was propped open, letting the sun shine in. Now it's all about climate control, limiting the number of visitors, and so forth--good thing or else the chapel would be no more. I think the video while acclimatizing is an excellent feature, especially for the uninitiated. When I visited in 2007, I was traveling with friends who knew nothing of the chapel and were trusting my judgment. The video gave them a great introduction to what they were about to see.

In addition to the video in the "decontamination room", there is also a longer video shown in the multi-media room just down the hall from the ticket office for Scrovegni Chapel. Worth watching and worth checking out the exhibits there.

Wow -- 20 times -- I envy u!

Thanks for the tip, yk, on the other video.

Cant wait to be decontaiminated!
