Scottland or Ireland ?

Planning a trip for this fall or next spring. Can anyone suggest something? I'll have about 7-8 days. Thanks.

Northern Ireland offers great history, mouthdropping (aka gobsmacking) scenery, incredible food (watch out for the breakfasts), a lot fewer tourists than the Republic, and cheaper prices. Start at Belfast, visit the Ulster Folk Museum, head up the coast (a couple of castles on the way) to the glens, then the hill where Ossian is buried (and the Little People live), to the Giant's Causeway, Rathlin Island and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, over to Derry. You might be able to fit in a quick swing through Donegal. It'll be a bit chilly and rainy; bring sweaters and good rain gear. Because of the Troubles, the Six Counties have lost a lot of tourism dollars over the last several years and really welcome the tourists who do arrive.

That is an unanswerable question. Both are magnificent and both are worthe devoting your whole trip.

Which is "better" is totally subjective. Ask 10 different people and you will get 10 different answers. Personally I love Ireland - but my feelings re Scotland are waaaaay beyond that. It is my favorite place on earth.

But someone else will have the same feelings re Ireland.

Unless you have a specific connection - family heritage, etc. - just pick one or the other (not BOTH since they each have so much to offer). You will have a great time.

Really tough choice. But if I could only go back to one, I'd have to choose Ireland. That's with 7 days. With 18 days, I'd go to both, no doubt.

Both are beautiful but if I had to choose I'd go with Ireland too...simply because its a much sexier accent!! (the Scottish accent is incomprehensible to me!!)

I've taken 3 week trips to both countries, and while Scotland was beautiful, Ireland is my absolute favorite destination. I can't wait to go back next year!
