Scotland Trip
I will be spending 3 weeks in the UK and 6 of those days are in scotland I have 3 days planned in Edinburgh with a side trip to St. Andrews, my last night in glasgow where I fly out of. Is their any other places in scotland that would be highly recommended. I dont have a rental car but we have purchased rail passes.

Your choices are relatively limited. It would help to know what sort of things you like doing.
I have a document on train based day trips if you care to email me. |
Try Stirling, about half an hour from by train from Edinburgh or Glasgow. It's packed full of history within a very compact area a 10 minute uphill walk from the train station. Depending on time of year you are coming you can take a bus trip round the area hopping on and off all day at sites such as the National Wallace Monument that stands on the hill that Wallace hid his men behind while waiting for the english before the battle of stirling bridge and also the site of the battle of bannockburn where Bruce won independence for Scotland. There are plenty restaurants and coffee shops within the new town (a thriving shopping area) or old town (only minutes away) with lots of buildings of interest including Stirling Castle.

I second the recommedation for Stirling, I really enjoyed the time I spent there and would love to go back and explore more of the town. If you have a train pass, other places easily accessible as a day trip on the train from Edinburgh would be Perth, Dunfermline, Linlithgow, Dundee and Arbroath. It would really depend on your intersts which of those might work best for you. (If your interests lie in history, you'll be spoiled for choice!) Of course you could easily spend all three of your days in Edinburgh just exploring that fascinating city.

I definitely agree with Stirling. Plenty to do there to keep you busy for at least a full day. The Castle is marvelous. On the way up to the Castle, there is the old church and cemetery that are definitely worth some time.
