Scotland trekking help?
 

hi folks,

I've been researching but I'm quite lost as to how to play my trip to Scotland next week!

I will be staying with my cousin for a whole week and the week after my frnd will be joining me for 5 days Mon-Fri. We will depart Sat for SFO.

So for the 5 days I'm trying to put together an itinerary that would involve some trekking...some beautiful glens,lochs, mountains,moors perhaps...and of course a few distilleries. The Great Glen Way is more than 5 days long....and I'm just wondering has anyone done anything like this....it seems like the area around Glencoe, Eileen Donan Castle seems beautiful..any help would be appreciated! Each night for that Mon-Fri we would need hostels too so is it better to be in specific area and do day hikes? Or hike from one place to another?

oh and I also considered Isle of Skye/Jura etc but since this is our first trip to Scotland is it better to see the Loch Lomond/Glencoe sights first...

How are you planning to get around - are you renting a car or do you want to use public transport? Does make a difference re where you can get to.

And what is your nightly budget? There aren't hostels everywhere - but there are inexpensive B&Bs in most areas.

I can't help you with too many specifics, but if I had 5 days to trek around in Scotland I'd investigate the route between Glen Affric and the Five Sisters. Very beautiful terrain.

no car...but since we're backpking mostly on foot and buses in terms of transportation....mmm i know there are hostels but inexpensive B&Bs are fine too...
