Scotland Travel Plans
All -
I will be married in Scotland in May. Below is an outline of our travel plans thus far. Any feedback on current itinerary would be much appreciated as this is our first trip to Scotland: 1) Fly into Glasgow, Spend 4 days in Glasgow 2) Travel to Stranraer - We're to be married @ the Corsewall Lighthouse will be spending 4 nights there 3) Travel to Midlothian - Possible 2 night stay @ Borthwick Castle 4) Travel to Edinburgh - Possible 3 nights stay (Channing/Witchery) 5) Travel to Stirling/Loch Lomond - We were thinking of possibly staying one night in Stirling or 3 in Loch Lomond. Is 3 days too long in Loch Lomond? Also, does anyone have any feedback on the Lodge @ Loch Lomond? The review I have read appear to be mixed. 6) Return to Glasgow for trip home |
congratulations!
I would spend less time in Glasgow ( 2 days?) and more in Edinburgh (3-4 days). |
:( I just finished a fairly detailed response - and my connection dropped off and I lost it. Oh well - the short version:
I wouldn't stay in Stirling. If it were me I would stay 1 or 2 nights at the Roman Camp in Callander (not far from Stirling) and 1 or 2 nights at Cameron House on Loch Lomond. Both are upscale/fairly pricey but totally worth the money. Or anothe option not far from Stirling would be the Lake Hotel on the lake of Menteith. Not nearly so posh as the other two but in a lovely position on the shore of the only "lake" in Scotland, w/ swans at the bottom of the garden, an old country church/graveyard right next door, and views across to Inchmahome priory on an island. And I agree I'd want more time in Edinburgh than in Glasgow - but maybe you already have your air tix and Glasgow has to be at the front end . . . . |
Take the train from Glasgow to Fort Williams and back for a day. The scenery of the Highlands is amazing and it is so easy to just get on the train, get off and get back on. It is a quaint little train and the track route is quite thrilling!

If you really want to stay in Stirling, then I'd suggest the Highland Hotel. It's lovely.
I do envy you your wedding location. I'm not a Witchery fan. I think it's overblown. I too would recommend Cameron House, but it's not cheap. |
