Scotland train to Liverpool
I’m planning a trip to Scotland and want to include visiting Liverpool. Please help if anyone has knowledge with train transfers from either Glasgow or Edinburgh to Liverpool.

We recently travelled Avanti West Coast from Glasgow to London, and it also services Liverpool. However, the best place to plan these journeys is the National Rail enquiries site https://www.nationalrail.co.uk, which shows you options and also leads you to the rail operator's site to actually buy tickets.

There is good service between Glasgow and Liverpool. Four or five trains a day are direct (no changes). Plus MANY trains - every 5 or 10 or 15 minutes all day long -- that have one transfer (at various places -- Preston, Wigan, Lancaster, etc.).
Takes between 3.5-ish to 4.5-ish hours depending on which specific train you pick. The National Rail or Trainline sites will give you all the info you need. |
. . . Forgot to address trains from Edinburgh -- not quite as frequent as from Glasgow but still often all day. All will have at least one change (Newcastle, Manchester, Wigan, Prston etc)
However . . . If this is primarily for visiting Liverpool and you are considering flying into GLA or EDI and taking a train to Liverpool . . . flying into MAN makes most sense. LOTS of Manchester to Liverpool trains all day long from about 35 mins to 1:20 that cost almost nothing. And there are even trains directly from the airport. |
Thank you your travel tips are always helpful
