Scotland suggestions
 

Ok, it is official. We just booked out trip to Scotland for May 18-29 and could not be more excited! Flying into Edinburgh on morning of 19th and staying until 22. Then staying somewhere in Perthshire for a week and taking day trip by car. So excited!
Could you give me some insight on typical May temperatures and some places we defnintely should not miss on our day trips. Thank you so much!

In Edinburgh, I recommend Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, walk along Royal Mile, open top bus tour (45 minutes) and the Auld Reekie Ghost tour (leaves in front of Tron Church on Royal Mile). I also liked visiting city of Sterling. Sterling Castle is there along with a Jail as well. I found Glasgow boring.

May temps should be in anywhere from late 40s to 60s. Bring jacket, as it can get windy or cool in evenings.

I'd recommend a visit to The Georgian Hosue in Edinburgh. I don't often see this mentioned but I think it is one of the best National Trust properties.

In addition to the above suggestions for Edinburgh I'd recommend the botanical gardens.

Jody - is the Georgian House the one on St. Catherine's square? If so, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Georgian House is on Charlotte Square which is a couple of blocks north of the west end of Princes Street.

All good suggestions for Edinburgh so far. Other places not to miss include Gladstone's land and St Giles Cathedral (both on the Royal Mile), the Museum of Scotland (do not miss this - the contents are amazing and the bldg even more so), Arthur's Seat - drive up it or if you are fit - hike. The fiews are amazing.

For things to see in/near Perthshire: A looooong list but some of the biggies would include all of Fife including the fishing villages and St Andrews; Scone Palace, Gleneagles if you are into golf; Stirling and the Trossachs; Blair Athol; Dunkeld cathedral and the village; Loch Leven; Castle Campbell/Dollar Glen; Loch Earn/Loch Tay/Loch Rannoch and a ton of other things. A day trip up tp Deeside would be very doable (Braemar, Balmoral, Ballater; Glamis Castle.

Weather could be anything - I go often in May/June and have had the whole gammut from sleet to heat. So just take layers.
