Scotland: Secret Bunker
Has anyone ever visited this? It sounds like something my husband might really like but I don't know if it is worth it.

the article i just read says it is to be opened in the next few weeks and is really an old part of the medieval city that has been unearthed and not a bunker - though i may be reading about something different.

Yes, that is something different. This is the bunker that was built during the Cold War Era and, if there was a nuclear holocaust, the government would be run from this bunker. It's been opened since 1994 and it's near St. Andrews. I tried to post this on the Scotland, United Kingdom board but it didn't show up there.

We stopped at the Secret Bunker during our September 2004 trip (there's a report from me on fodors' site).
We were completely unimpressed by the aboveground part of the Secret Bunker, and couldn't convince ourselves to spend the money to go inside. On the other hand, we all thoroughly enjoyed Churchill's War Rooms (in London), and my parents (traveling with us) were teenagers during WWII, so they're particularly interested in these sites. Somehow, the Secret Bunker just didn't do it for us. Your mileage may vary. :) Gayle |
you can see what I said about it on your thread about your itinerary . . . . .
