Scotland: Most Beautiful Area for Manor House Rental?
Has anyone had any experiences renting a large house in Scotland? Where would I search for a company that does rentals in Scotland. Where would you consider the most beautiful location to visit for a weeks stay?
Thanks for your help.

I don't know about manor houses. I do know that Galloway has sights that couldn't begin to be explored in a week. Gardens, Castles, Walks, Coast, Rivers, Sports and Arts. We were in just 3 towns in a week and didn't even scratch the surface. Kircudbright, Wigtown, Castle Douglas, Port Logan, Stranraer, Newton Stewart... they all have possibilities. Try it out!

There are plently of large country houses with gardens for rent - best plan is to decide on where you want to go first - you will probably find something suitable in the area.
Argyll (around Oban) and Perthshire are 2 prime areas.
At this time of year they are mostly vacant, but there's a rush around new year.
If you are going to M's wedding take night vision glasses with you.It gets dark at about 3pm in Perthshire just before Xmas.

Finally Sheila, you have come to my aid. Thank You! Madonna has been too busy with her more famous guests to put me and my group up.
Dana and Frank, thank you as well. It looks like we may have to settle for a castle for lodgings and I'll be looking into the locations you suggested.

Dr. Betty, you might want to look at the houses available through the Landmark Trust. You do have to order their catalog, but it seems a very worthwhile organization and the properties are lovely. Check their website at www.landmarktrust.co.uk. I just rented a house outside Stirling that sleeps 16, but it was VERY hard to decide!

Hi Dr. Betty,
My husband and I rented from CKD Finlayson Hughes (it's on the website list from Sheila) for our wedding and reception. We rented the Glenfeochan Estate and it was quite wonderful - not an exquisite place in terms of newest painting and carpeting, but a grand old country estate house with lots of character! Oban is only 5 miles from there so lots of amenities nearby.
Enjoy!
