Scotland Military Tattoo

Is it idfficulat to acquire tickets for this event? Should I preorder the ticket? Where would I purchase one?

Here's a site to order:

http://www.edintattoo.co.uk/

Try to get tickets facing the castle; the bleachers are in a U shape and the best seats face the castle. I would also try to get tickets for the nights when there are fireworks - they were great with the castle as a backdrop. When you get there rent a cushion to sit on as the seats are hard metal and cold.

Thanks so much. While I am here asking...any idea where to stay in Edinburgh around there as I will be alone that night? Budget - between $100 and $150 if possible...thanks

Edinburgh, in August, you'll be lucky. It's peak season then due to the Festivals. Anything decent at a low price will probably have already sold out. You may also find that you have to stay a minimum number of nights. Also expect to stay outside of the centre of Edinburgh though that isn't a real problem due to the quality of the Edinburgh bus services

But start with the suggestions on http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotels-...nd-Hotels.html

Is it in fact better to be so far away...?

Wow - not cheap and you are all right. There is limited availablity- now I feel like I am scrambling!

The bands will be marching toward you and you will be looking directly ahead instead of turning your head. It's a small arena so nothing will be all that far. If you sit nearest the castle you'll see a lot of the back of the people marching in the bands. IMHO

kelsey22, you need to plan in advance if you'll be in Edinburgh in August, the Edinburgh Tattoo is very popular and tickets can be hard to come by. I recommend buying your tickets and booking accomodation asap.

Those aren't far. Listen to adrienne. I've attended the Tattoo 6 times over the last 30 years (and would go every year if I could).

If you can - definitely book seats facing the Castle. Other seats are OK but those are the best. Also be sure to have warm and waterproof outerwear. A poncho is good since you can't use an umbrella during the show.

Year round, Edinburgh has more expensive accommodations than other parts of Scotland -- but that is doubly so in August. If you are touring other parts of Scotland it might be better to splurge a bit in Edinburgh since you can get rooms for much less in other areas. Your average cost per night will be lower, but you'll want to spend more in the city.
