Scotland lodging for $60 or less

I'm flying to Edinburgh and I'm looking for a B&B if possible, $60 or less. I'm an independent traveler and I'm going to start in Edinburgh and go all over Scotland. It's a left turn trip, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, London.
Thanks

I always feel kinda bad when a post has no replies. Unfortunately I don't have any advice for you about a Scotland B&B, but I can tell you to have a great trip! And now you have 1 reply. :)

try this website.

You can sort by price. We found a good B&B on the outskirts of Edinburgh (15 minute bus ride to city centre) for about 20 pounds per person.
Our B&B was Joppa Turrets

You could try the Scottish Youth Hostel Association. They have a nice place in Edinburgh

Nice B&Bs are usually around £50 per person, so nearly $100 at current exchange rates, unless you stay somewhere quite far out.

The new Youth Hostel on Haddington Place (the one Pumbavu means, I expect) only opened last week & is supposed to be very posh. They have rooms from singles to 8-bedders, all en suite. It is in my old office ! http://www.syha.org.uk/SYHA/Web/Site...tralPhotos.asp

Haddington Place is part of Leith Walk which is, shall we say, a mixed neighbourhood; but very close to the east end of Princes Street & the New Town (c.10 minutes walk). I'm quite happy getting a bus home from there late at night - there are always lots of people about.

Here is the service we used last April. They have just great places, at great prices...

You can also ask your travel agent about "Country Rover", a listing of about 2,000 B&Bs all over the UK.

You may want to check out either www.hostelz.com or www.bookhostels.com You could get a private room in a hostel and have access to a full kitchen.

Hm, daeesl, there aren't many farms *in* Edinburgh. The ones on that site are all about 20 miles away.

Actually I have <u>never</u> paid as much as &pound;50 per person in a Scottish B&amp;B. Hotels sure - but never in a B&amp;B. My normal rates have run for about &pound;25 or a little less, to at very most &pound;40 for a single, and &pound;40 - &pound;70 for doubles.

You definitely do not have to hit hostels to get w/i $60 (about &pound;31) Now Edinburgh is at the high end of course - but still easy to find places less than &pound;40 single. And when you consider the cheaper places you will find elsewhere in the country your average can easily be less than &pound;30 per night.

Plenty of B&amp;B's in Corstophine that come in at around 40gbp per night for a double. Doubt if you can get 60usd per night unless you stay in a hostel

Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist BoardAccommodation, attractions and events in Edinburgh - Official Tourist Board.

try this site - have accommodation info but as a single traveler many B&amp;Bs will charge you for a double it appears from this site.

I stayed here - www.scotland2000.com/craigmore/ - for &pound;30 a night in January.

All I did was find several places &amp; emailed them, then picked one I liked

caroline_edinburgh Sep 15th, 2006 03:33 AM

Janis, I don't doubt you but I am surprised. All the people I know who do B&amp;B charge &pound;50-55 per person, and the places in the New Town which people here have mentioned &amp; which I've looked up have been at least that. I know the New Town is going to be top end prices, but I'd have thought that for &pound;30-odd you'd only get somewhere really far out or in a grotty area.

The new hostel is supposed to be nice, it's very central and particularly since it's brand new, I'd rather risk that than a cheap B&amp;B. But that's just me.

&pound;30-&pound;60 per ROOM B&amp;B

caroline_edinburgh Sep 15th, 2006 06:37 AM

Looks OK, GreenDragon - IMO it's more like half an hour than 10 minutes to walk from there to Princes Street or the Castle, but it's an OK area &amp; near a main bus route.

caroline_edinburgh: My answer was for swbabe's general question re Scotland lodging for under $60. As I mentioned, she will pay more in Edinburgh but significantly less elsewhere so it will even out in the end.

There are still lots of B&amp;Bs in Edinburgh for &pound;30-&pound;40 (or even less) per person - but mostly they are w/i bus and not walking distance of Princes Street.

take a look at www.scottishaccommodationindex.com/edinburgh.php - MANY places at or under &pound;30-ish. Most are not posh but they are on convenient bus lines and certainly nice enough for a few day's stay.

Of course, one can pay a LOT more than &pound;40 pp too. Just depends on one's budget/priorities.

Prices have gone up since we stayed here but are still reasonable and we loved the location RIGHT on the beach.
It's not downtown but the frequent buses got us to Princes St in 15 minutes. Note they have a good discount for longer stays
